SETTING TEMPO AT EASTERN VISAYAS

GOOD police work is often seen in simple things: a warrant served, an illegal activity stopped, a firearm surrendered or a community protected.

Under PBGen. Romano Cardiño, the Police Regional Office 8 appears to be setting a steady tempo — keeping its units active, responsive and focused on their responsibilities across Eastern Visayas.

The recent operations tell the story.

In Samar, Northern Samar, Leyte and Biliran, 42 individuals were apprehended in anti-illegal fishing operations. Authorities reported confiscating boats, engines, fishing equipment and fish with a combined estimated value of ₱1.314 million.

In separate operations, PRO8 personnel arrested 16 wanted persons across the region, including individuals facing serious criminal charges.

In Samar, two individuals identified by authorities as former members of a communist terrorist group surrendered firearms, ammunition and a rifle grenade.

Three different areas of police work, but one common rhythm: units in the field, responding to problems and carrying out their mandate.

That is where Cardiño’s leadership becomes visible.

A regional director cannot personally be everywhere. His role is to set the direction and tempo of the organization, strengthen coordination and ensure that police units remain ready to act.

Eastern Visayas is a wide region, with different communities and different security concerns. Keeping such an organization moving in the same direction requires clear leadership and coordination.

The recent activities suggest that Cardiño is doing just that.

From coastal waters to municipal communities, PRO8 personnel are making their presence felt through enforcement, police operations and community engagement.

The numbers will continue to change as operations unfold. But leadership is also about establishing a rhythm — and keeping the organization moving.

At PRO8, Cardiño appears to be setting the tempo: steady, active and firmly focused on service.
