‘ANGEL’ RESPONDS TO PLEAS OF ANTIPOLO FOLKS

Every year, the residents of Barangay Muntindilaw, Antipolo, Rizal, endure the devastating effects of flooding, particularly during the typhoon season.

The recurring deluge leaves behind significant damage to homes, appliances and other personal property, resulting in a cycle of repairs that seems never-ending.

The flooding, according to homeowner association president Charles Dumayas, is primarily caused by the overflow of a nearby river during heavy rains.

Despite repeated appeals to the Department of Public Works and Highways, the concerns of these residents have largely gone unheard, with their requests falling on deaf ears.

However, a beacon of hope has emerged this year, with Rizal Governor Nina Ynares-Chiongbian stepping in to address this long-standing issue.

Long-time friend, fellow journalist Danny Junco told Chokepoint, after years of struggling with this problem, residents are optimistic that this year may mark a turning point.

Gov. Nina Ynares – Chiongbian, whom Junco describes as an “angel sent from heaven,” responded promptly to the pleas of the residents, ensuring that their concerns would finally be addressed.

Through collaboration with engineers from the Rizal provincial government, the root cause of the frequent flooding in the barangay, specifically along Lynx Street, has been identified.

The solution involves the construction of retaining walls or riprap along the riverbanks to act as a protective barrier, preventing floodwaters from encroaching into the village.

This quick and decisive action has not only alleviated the residents’ fears but also instilled a sense of security against future typhoons that could otherwise wreak havoc on the community.

Ynares-Chiongbian’s swift intervention has brought much-needed relief to the residents of Barangay Muntindilaw, offering not just immediate solutions, but a sense of hope for the future.

Her dedication and leadership have truly made a difference in addressing this long standing issue, ensuring that the safety and well-being of her constituents remain a top priority.
