THE Caloocan City government has racked up recognitions for its programs in multiple aspects of good governance in the Urban Exemplar Awards of the Department of Interior and Local Government.
For its commitment in protecting the interests of its constituents and maintaining public safety, the city government was awarded as a Top Performer in the Local Council against Anti-Trafficking and Violence against Women and Children.
It also received a top award as a Significant and Invaluable Partner for its Peace and Order Council and Anti-Drug Abuse Council as well as having an Ideal Functionality for the Local Council for the Protection of Children for Performance Year 2024.
The DILG likewise cited its programs for environmental protection as it’s similarly hailed as a Top Performer in Informal Settler Families Cluster for its compliance with the Manila Bay Clean-Up, Rehabilitation, and Preservation Program.
In addition, the Sangguniang Panlungsod received the Exemplary Performance distinction in the 2025 Local Legislative Awards.
Extra-jubilant by the latest achievements his administration has obtained, Mayor Along Malapitan congratulated the whole city as he believed that these recognitions from both public and private sectors are tangible indicators of the progress and development of Caloocan.
“These would serve as further motivation and inspiration for all of us here in the city government to double our work and commitment in finding areas of improvement to deliver more quality services to the people,” said the son of former long-time mayor and now District 1 Rep. Oscar Malapitan.
Tiangco sees passage of ICI bill before Christmas break
Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco believes that the House of Representatives will pass a law granting more powers to the Independent Commission for Infrastructure before the Christmas break.
He filed House Bill No. 5699, which seeks to create an Independent Commission Against Infrastructure Corruption and grant it the authority to issue hold departure orders, recover and sequester properties, and with concurrence of the concerned government agencies, directly file administrative, criminal, or civil cases against individuals suspected of involvement in flood control and other infrastructure anomalies.
It aims to strengthen agencies such as the Department of Justice and the Office of the Ombudsman in building solid cases against those involved in infrastructure-related corruption.
Tiangco thanked House Speaker Bojie Dy and House Committee on Government Reorganization chairperson and Bulacan 6th District Rep. Salvador Pleyto for prioritizing the measure.
