MANILA, Philippines- Pinagtibay ng Philippine government, sa pamamagitan ng Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), ang commitment nito sa pagpapagaan ng buhay ng mahihirap na kababaihan sa Pilipinas sa pamamagitan ng iba’t ibang social protection programs.
Sa interactive expert dialogue sa 68th Session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UN CSW68) sa New York nitong Lunes, sinabi ni DSWD Undersecretary Emmeline Aglipay-Villar na patuloy ang pagpondo ng pamahalaan sa mga programang ito bilang bahagi ng national strategy upang labanan ang kahirapang nararanasan ng mga kababaihan.
“By implementing a spectrum of social protection initiatives, from short to long-term support, the Philippine government effectively addresses the diverse needs of Filipino women and girls living in poverty in line with the Philippines’ strongly held position that women and girls empowerment redound to a stronger, more resilient nation for generations to come,” giit ng opisyal.
Kabilang sa mga binanggit niyang inisyatiba ng bansa ang multisectoral nutrition project at food stamp program upang tugunan ang gutom.
Gayundin, ibinahagi niya ang Philippine sustainable livelihood program na sumusuporta sa mga kababaihan sa pagsisimula ng negosyo at pagpapalago nito.
Sinabi rin niyang ipinatutupad ng bansa ang Tara, Basa! (Let’s Read!) program upang paghusayin ang pagbasa at komprehensyon ng first grade students sa pamamagitan ng pagkuha ng college students bilang tutors.
Bukod dito, inihayag ni Villar na pinalalakas ng bansa ang mga institusyon nito sa pamamagitan ng paglalaan ng bahagi ng national budget para sa gender and development. RNT/SA
