NPD STRENGTHENS BATTLE VS FAKE NEWS

FLASH news – The long arm of the law has finally caught up with the kidnappers – 32-year-old John and 22-year-old Carlo – who were arrested in separate operations by men of Caloocan Police Chief Col. Edcille Canals.

The suspects were apprehended one after the other on March 17 in Barangay 186, Caloocan, and March 22 in Barangay Bahay Pare in Meycauayan, Bulacan.

The victims, who were kidnapped, held captive, and extorted for ransom by the suspects, can now see the light of justice. Kudos to the Caloocan Police for their efforts in resolving this case.

As the 2025 national and local elections approach, the Northern Police District is ramping up its efforts to combat the spread of fake news, a growing threat to the integrity of the electoral process.

District director PCol. Josefino D. Ligan, said NPD is committed to ensuring that the public has access to accurate information, enabling them to make informed decisions.

The spread of fake news is a serious offense that can have dire consequences, especially during elections, Ligan emphasized, stressing the need for a unified effort to combat misinformation.

The NPD’s comprehensive strategy includes enhanced monitoring of social media platforms and online news sources, in collaboration with the Philippine National Police’s Anti-Cybercrime Group.

In addition, the NPD will launch public awareness campaigns aimed at educating the public on recognizing and avoiding fake news, utilizing social media, community forums, and local media channels to spread the message.

National Capital Region Police Office Director, PBGen Anthony Aberin, praised the NPD’s proactive approach, calling it a model for other districts and units of the Philippine National Police to emulate.

PNP Chief, Gen. Rommel Marbil, also commended the initiative, highlighting its importance in safeguarding the electoral process.

The NPD’s efforts should be followed across the entire PNP to ensure that the upcoming elections remain credible, peaceful, and free from the chaos of misinformation, Marbil said.

With these initiatives, the NPD is leading the charge in ensuring a fair and secure electoral process in 2025.
