IN line with her commitment to ensure that no family goes hungry, Malabon Mayor Jeannie Sandoval has vowed the maximize the local resources at her disposal in a determined bid to strengthen food security in the northern city.

This, as the city government started to distribute 10 kilos of rice for each 3,000 Malabueños under the “Hapag Sigurado: Rice Distribution Program para sa Malabueño.”

“Hindi natin hahayaan na may tahanang Malabueño ang magugutom. Sa pamamagitan ng proyektong ito, tinitiyak natin na may pagkain sa bawat hapag, lalo na sa panahong patuloy na tumataas ang presyo ng mga pangunahing bilihin.”

“Ito ay ating tuloy-tuloy na palalakasin upang mas marami pa ang maabot at matulungan,” she told Good Riddance.

The rice distribution project is a targeted food security intervention designed to provide timely and adequate rice assistance to around 20,000 identified households in the city, according to City Administrator Alex Rosete.

The program was held at the Malabon Sports Complex and forms part of the city’s broader “Pag-Ahon” agenda focused on uplifting the lives of Malabueños through responsive and inclusive programs, he stressed.

It’s launched under the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF) through the coordination of the Sangguniang Panlungsod (city council), concerned offices of the national and city governments, and the barangays.

Moreover, the top officials said it is part of the initiatives under the ‘Bawat Bayan Makikinabang’ program of the national government that strengthens local government units through increased financial support to help them respond more effectively to the needs and concerns of their communities.

The 3,000 residents represent the first batch of beneficiaries, composed of fisherfolk, barangay tanod, pedicab drivers and operators, and ambulant vendors—sectors identified as among those most affected by rising food costs.

Rosete emphasized that the program reflects the Sandoval administration’s proactive approach to addressing food security challenges at the grassroots level.

“Sa pamamagitan ng maayos na koordinasyon at tamang pagtukoy ng mga benepisyaryo, sinisiguro nating ang tulong ay napupunta sa mga higit na nangangailangan.”

The city government assured that succeeding batches would be rolled out in the coming weeks to cover the remaining identified beneficiaries.
