NATIONAL Bureau of Investigation Director Jaime Santiago should not turn a blind eye to the misuse of his office by certain individuals for illegal collection activities.
The NBI is the primary agency tasked with addressing issues that may threaten the country’s security. It holds a high-level status in the government, which is why the public holds it in high regard.
However, the alleged involvement of some of its officials in gambling and vice activities demands immediate action from Santiago.
I am sharing this not to discredit the NBI but to awaken certain regional chiefs who, because of their complacency, seem to have forgotten their duties.
Chokepoint respects and admires the leadership of Dir. Santiago, a renowned sharpshooter from Manila’s Finest turned judge, who now leads the country’s premier investigative body.
Given the NBI’s vast jurisdiction across the nation, some regional and provincial chiefs may have failed or intentionally refuse to report to him the true situation in their areas of responsibility.
This poses a challenge for Santiago as honest and accurate reports from subordinates are crucial to ensuring the agency’s integrity.
In Region 4A (CaLaBaRZon: Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon), the NBI’s reputation has been severely damaged due to the blatant illegal collection activities allegedly led by alias “Meki Biscocho.”
This individual is reportedly targeting various illegal activities such as gambling operations, paihi (fuel theft) and even illegal drugs, leaving no stone unturned.
“Biscocho” allegedly claims, “This is the boss’ order,” when extorting money. If such a ‘boss’ exists, Dir. Santiago must unmask and expose them.
While I am not outright confirming the truth of these allegations circulating in the region – as the head of the NBI, Dir. Santiago must remain vigilant.
The reputation of the NBI and Dir. Santiago himself are at stake. Every scandal thrown at the agency is a stain on his spotless image as a leader.
