GADON HOPES PISA RATING WILL IMPROVE WITH ANGARA

PRESIDENTIAL Adviser on Poverty Alleviation Larry Gadon has high hopes that newly-named Department of Education Secretary and Senator Juan Edgardo ‘Sonny’ Angara would be able to improve the country’s Programme for International Student Assessment rating.

“President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s appointment of him as DepEd secretary is a welcome addition to his Cabinet,” Secretary Gadon told Good Riddance.

“With him at the helm of DepEd, I am pretty hopeful that the Philippines will improve its PISA ratings,” he added.

PISA is an international assessment that measures the literacy of 15-year-old students on reading, mathematics and science.

The presidential anti-poverty adviser noted that one indicator of the country’s state of basic education is its performance in PISA wherein it is in the bottom ranking – 78/78 in 2018 and 77/81 in 2022.

He was likewise confident that Angara would contribute a lot in the improvement of human resource development “by way of leading the education sector to a new and better direction.”

“Education is a major key in alleviating poverty hence I am happy that the new DepEd secretary is someone who is really capable of instituting reforms in our educational system,” he said.

Over 300 trainees earn tech-voc skills in Navotas

Navotas has gained 347 more skilled workers following their graduation from the Navotas Vocational Training and Assessment (NAVOTAAS) Institute, Mayor John Rey Tiangco said.

He has shared with the graduates the secrets to success.

“Aside from continuous learning and constant upgrading of your skills and knowledge, you have to possess the right attitude to build good working relationships.”

“Practice strong work ethic.  Always persevere to be the best version of yourself and find ways to be of more value to the industry or institution you are working for and the clients you serve,” he added.

The city chief executive also reminded them that should they decide to further their training, they’re welcome to enroll in other technical-vocational courses offered by the institute.

He further urged them to avail of the city government ‘Tulong Puhunan and Tulong Negosyo’ programs should they want to pursue entrepreneurship.
