PH ON TRACK FOR UPPER-MIDDLE INCOME STATUS

TAKING the words of Navotas City Rep. Toby Tiangco, the Marcos administration appears to be continuously taking the necessary steps to help the Philippines achieve upper-middle income status by 2026.

“Climbing up to a higher bracket would be a milestone for our country. NEDA (National Economic Development Authority) has expressed optimism that we will reach upper-middle income status by 2026, if not sooner.”

“To help keep the country on track, the Marcos administration continues to implement programs and policies aimed at increasing investments and generating jobs to sustain the country’s upward momentum,” he added.

A country is classified as upper-middle income when it reaches a per capita gross national income or the total amount of money earned by a country’s people and businesses at home and abroad—between $4,516 and $14,005.

In Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia belong to this group, while Singapore and Brunei are considered high-income.

‘Flooding, a thing of the past’

The city government has further strengthened its flood mitigation efforts with the inauguration and blessing of its 87th ‘bombastik’ pumping station in Barangay Tanza 2.

Tiangco and brother, Mayor John Rey Tiangco, cited the essential role of community cooperation in ensuring the success of these initiatives.

“We remain steadfast in advancing our flood control and mitigation efforts—not just to protect lives and safeguard property, but to ensure the long-term resilience and sustainable progress of our city,” they said.

They also called on their constituents to be proactive partners in the city’s flood management efforts by keeping waterways clean and avoiding improper waste disposal.

Forging pact for waste recovery program

Mayor JRT just forged a partnership with Green Antz Builders Inc. to strengthen the city’s sustainability initiatives through a plastic waste recovery program.

He signed the agreement with its general manager, Elinor Quilas, whose company would provide the necessary machine and technology, conduct training programs on proper waste segregation and manage the effective utilization of the city’s Material Recovery Facility.

“This partnership with Green Antz strengthens our efforts towards a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Navotas. Through proper waste management and active community participation, we can make a significant impact for future generations,” the mayor said.

He also called on Navoteños to actively support the initiative through proper waste segregation and disposal.
