THIS October 12, 2024, the Jesus Is Lord Church Worldwide celebrates its 46th anniversary. It is worth reflecting on how this church has continued to make a difference not just in preaching faith but in living it through service.
What began as a small Bible study group of 15 students at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines in the 1970s has since grown into a global ministry that has touched millions of lives, both in the Philippines and around the world.
At the heart of JILCW’s success is its focus on helping others. Under the leadership of Bro. Eddie Villanueva, the church has done more than offer spiritual guidance. It has become a key player in social programs—helping families in need, responding to disasters, offering education, and building strong communities. Over the years, JILCW has grown to over 72 countries, with each chapter keeping true to the church’s core message of service and compassion.
This year’s anniversary, with the theme “Christ is the Answer,” comes at a time when many people are facing challenges in life—poverty, inequality, natural disasters, and personal struggles. JILCW believes that in times of difficulty, turning to Christ can provide the hope and strength to be able to move forward.
Many leaders, including those in the Senate, had expressed their admiration not only for JIL’s spiritual mission but also for its concrete contributions to society. Programs like the Jesus Is Lord College Foundation, Inc., which offers education, and iCare Compassion Ministries Foundation, Inc., which supports those in need, show that the church takes its message of service seriously.
Senator Nancy Binay spoke about JILCW’s growth into a spiritual home for Filipinos and communities in many parts of the world. Senator JV Ejercito praised Bro. Eddie Villanueva’s leadership. Senator Win Gatchalian admired JILCW’s dedication to serving others, not only through its religious teachings but also through its outreach and educational initiatives. Senator Loren Legarda reflected on the church’s vital role in disaster relief and nation-building efforts. Senators Migz Zubiri and Grace Poe shared their appreciation for JILCW’s ongoing work in uplifting Filipino communities, both here and abroad, over the past 46 years. Colleagues also recognized the founders’ son, Senator Joel Villanueva, for embodying the values of the church in his public service.
Perhaps the most touching testimony came from Senator Imee Marcos, who shared a personal story. When her father, President Ferdinand Marcos Sr., was brought back to the Philippines after years in Hawaii, no priest or church was willing to offer the last rites. In this difficult moment, Bro. Eddie Villanueva stepped in and volunteered to offer the prayers, despite having been jailed twice under the Marcos regime. When Senator Marcos’ mother hesitated, Bro. Eddie reminded her that forgiveness is central to their faith, saying, “Jesus Is Lord (Church) forgives as our Lord Jesus Christ did.” This act of grace and compassion left a lasting impact on the Marcos family.
Happy 46 th anniversary, Jesus Is Lord Church Worldwide!
