THE Valenzuela City government has reinstituted the ‘Bantay Sunog’ volunteerism following the conduct of training and seminar for fire volunteers which would be held on regular basis to equip them with basic knowledge in responding to fire incidents.
This, as Mayor Wes Gatchalian led other key city officials in recognizing seven volunteers from Disiplina Village, Barangay Lingunan who managed to stop a fire that broke out weeks ago in their community.
“For their act of volunteerism, they were able to put out the fire even before the regular firemen could arrive at the scene and before it got worse. They managed to put the situation under their control.”
Those who received a certificate of commendation were fire volunteers Lourdes Nerpelo, Winnie Plaza, Renato Ortiz, Baldomero Villanueva, Rommel Ramo, Lorenzo Diego and Maribel Torres.
In 2009, then mayor and now Senator Win Gatchalian instituted the Bantay Sunog volunteerism core under his capacity-building program.
At present, the city government has produced over 10,000 fire volunteers, said the mayor who vowed to continue providing refresher courses to the local fire volunteers in all its 33 villages.
NPD okays malls public safety and security measures
Northern Police District director P/BGen Rizalito Gapas approved the security and public safety measures being undertaken by the shopping malls in the cities of Caloocan, Valenzuela and Malabon.
He personally oversaw and inspected the security forces of different malls in Caloocan as well as Valenzuela and Malabon during a general assembly and joint tactical inspection.
The activity was aimed at assessing the security manpower skills and to test the training efficiency of the mall’s frontline staff in responding safely, responsibly, and effectively to emergency situations.
